Miss Ethel P. Carpenter the assistant postmistress was arrested by U S Deputy Marshal James Waters charged with embezzling 170.26 of postal money order funds. The 21 year old pleaded not guilty. Continued on Page 3 Third Column.
London report details Ethel Leneve after acquittal as Crippen case drags on. Arthur Newton, Crippen’s counsel, shields her in exile with offers arriving from music halls and other suitors. Newton says appeal planned. Crippen cheerful at developments and pleased by the acquittal.
Congressmen Eugene N. Foss wound up his Cape tour with large rallies in New Bedford and Fall River. Cape Republicans are in insurgent mood. Receptions for Foss and Thacher, the Congress candidate, were bigger and livelier than those in the 14th district contest.
Republican rallies drew town committee members who introduced speakers as Thacher campaigns to unseat Judge Robert Co. Harris of Bridgewater. He enjoys broad backing across the district from many leading Republicans in towns and cities, signaling strong party support.
Thomas W. Lawson admits betting large sums on the Massachusetts state election and plans to bet more for a client. Under state law, betting on political elections or aiding wagers is a crime carrying a $2000 fine and one year in jail. Lawson exonerates Foss while guarding the unnamed Republican backer.
Frank Urbansky, agnostic and four months' Municipal Court sentence holder, was mobbed again last night in Pemberton square. He fled toward Tremont street candy store after sailors pursued him. about 1000 people gathered and police were notified as Urbansky escaped out the store’s rear.
Frederick Weinstein and James Rosenblack were arrested on robbery charges after four men assaulted Roderick J. Harris near the State House and stole six dollars. Harris, living at 138 Court Street, was beaten and left on Bowdoin Street. Patrolmen Haggerty and Kelliber captured Weinstein and Rosenblack, with two suspects逃逃.
Captain E K Walls of Hallowell Maine, master of the schooner Holliswood, was rescued after a Norwegian steamer Harold took off his crew of seven on Oct 17. He arrived in Galveston aboard Parkwood with his schooner, picked up about 100 miles off Campechy Banks on Oct 20. He survived three days without food, drinking only salt water, and was delirious when found.
The Parkwood schooner, blown 150 miles off course, stripped of spars and rudder, with upper structure wrecked and 700,000 feet of cypress lumber aboard, towed after hurricane. Captain Walls accuses Harold’s captain of denying food and water as crew frantically fled. he wrote a letter to his wife before the barge departed.

Dartmouth and Yale contrast in form with Yale overcoming freshmen while Dartmouth prepares for a Princeton showdown. A third-league promoter threatens action against Boston and Eastern cities, and New England League governance faces urgent changes.
Augustus Post and Hawley landed in a remote Quebec mountainside after a storm forced a night in the balloon America II. They completed a 1335 mile nonstop flight to claim a new world record and were later reached by St Ambroise, Quebec, via forest and river.
The men left St Ambroise at 4 30 p m today by vehicle and will likely reach Quebec and return to New York via Montreal. Both are reported safe and in good health. St Ambroise lies 30 or 40 miles north of Chicoutimi, which is 227 miles from Quebec by rail or about 176 miles by road.

Patrolman Charles B. Kelley of Hanover street station is in serious condition at Relief Hospital after rescuing Mrs. Sadie Rose of Malden and her four year old son Arthur from a horse driven ambulance incident. Kelley suffers a fractured leg and dislocated shoulder blade. the horse was attached to the ambulance.
Kelley, standing near the Relief Hospital cross ing, pulled Mrs Rose and her four year old Arthur out of the path of a speeding ambulance driven by Patrolman Ephraim Kennedy. The collision knocked Kelley down. Mrs Rose and Arthur suffered leg contusions. Ambulance patient Christo Ambrogia, 40, from Noor folk avenue, had been stabbed by a varicose vein bleed before transport from Ferry street.
A serious blaze tore through Victoria British Columbia’s business core on Oct 27. Firemen fought to contain the flames as they shifted toward residential districts. Marines from Esquimalt were assisting the local firefighters at the scene.
Aviator M Blanchard fell about 100 feet over Issy-les-Moulineux while attempting descent after a flight from Bourges and was instantly killed today.
