Emperor Leo roamed the Bronx Zoo grounds for about 45 minutes before keepers cornered him near the polar bear cages. Thurman and 12 men used a chloroform-soaked cotton wad on a pole to subdue the beast and return him to his cage without injury.
Forecast for New England says partly cloudy and much colder Friday with Saturday fair and cold. Brisk to high northwest winds expected.
Richard H. Long the framing shoe manufacturer denied Gibby’s claim he passed $1000 to John Curley at the Adams House during the passage of a bill against the Shoe Machinery Company. Long testified he did not know Curley was employed and disputed frequent interviews with Gibby or nightly meetings at the Adams House.
Curley testified he visited Long at South Framingham to discuss payment for services as he planned to marry. Long said he would arrange to meet him with Mr. Gibby at the Adams House the following Friday, per the cross inquiry.
A mud scow being towed by the N. C. Splaine collided with the lighter Mandy off Whidden's Point in the upper harbor and sank her with lumber onboard. The Splaine's skipper rescued the two men aboard the Mandy.
The towboat captain towing the mudscow failed to learn of the collision due to distance and continued to its dumping ground. Harbor police had not located him by late that night. The Mandy’s stern sticks high. once lumber is removed she may rise if a large hole was driven in her side.

Clare Westley described as refined with dark eyes is being hunted in Boston for pawning silverware and jewelry stolen from multiple break ins tied to Frank McCann. McCann, a noted burglar, was arrested yesterday in a pawnshop attempting to sell stolen items from Charles Gettemy chief of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Authorities tie a string of over sixty burglaries to McCann, identified as the sole suspect active in the area around the city. Officials say continued investigation extends beyond this report and will be updated on page three.
Miss Mary McDougall was robbed and knocked unconscious near Inglewood and Commonwealth avenues in Aberdeen district after being struck by a sandbag. Two young men about 22 years old, of medium build, emerged from a tree shadow and fled. A passerby found her and helped her home.
A two alarm fire hit the Woodland Golf Clubhouse locker room in Newton at 7 30 pm. The Newton fire department arrived quickly due to the automatic alarm and doused the flames before significant damage to the clubhouse. Clothing stored in the locker room fed the blaze after a cigarette was thought left burning by a golfer.
L B Paine of Duluth Minnesota acting captain of the Cornell freshman football team died at the Cornell Infirmary tonight from suspected internal injuries received while playing football.
Daniel Norton, first mate on the two masted schooner R. L. Fay, is missing at the lumber wharf of Curtis & Pope in Dorchester. Friends say he carried a large sum of money. Six or more stevedores have not been paid. Captain Charles Kendall has left the ship and unloading is halted until his return.

Ralph Johnstone and Arch Hoxsey of the Wright team rose into a 40 mile an hour gale at Belmont Park and flew 55 miles to establish the day’s distance record. Johnstone reached an estimated 9000 feet before being forced to land by the weather.
Michael M. Carboni of 211 Endicot Street, an investigator with the Watch and Ward Society, has been missing for nearly a week and is believed by friends to be held a prisoner in Chinatown.
The fifth day of the meet featured postponements and bold feats as aviators faced 20 to 25 mph winds. Latham flew an Antoinette for distance while Hoxsey and Johnstone of the Wright team braved the gale in headless biplanes, attempting to soar yet failing to master the wind. Continued on Page 11.

Assistant Secretary Jefferson Parker asked for a continuance in court, noting Carboni could not be located and fearing captivity or murder by thugs. Boston police pledged a thorough search.
Mrs Edward F McClennan wife of a Brandeis Dunbar Nutter lawyer and two young daughters from Cambridge disappeared two weeks ago. Also missing is Robert W Sawyer Harvard 1902 associate in the same firm, leaving a wife and two boys.
