Obituary of Hon. Mason W. Tappan

The Hon. Mason W. Tappan, attorney general of New Hampshire, died at his Bradford home after a brief illness. Born October 20, 1817 in Newport, he studied law, served in Congress, led troops in 1861 as a colonel, and for ten years held the state attorney general post. A liberal Republican ally of Horace Greeley, he was known for public spirit and generous conduct.

Mrs Cornelia M Stewart widow of the late millionaire dry goods merchant A T Stewart died suddenly at her residence at Thirty-fourth Street and Fifth Avenue. She was Miss Clinch of New York City and aided her husband in building the fortune. Funeral Thursday at her residence with Rev Arthur Brooks officiating. remains to Garden City for interment in the Stewart tomb.

Reverend Hamblett Died in London New Hampshire

The Rev Frank P Hamblett died on Sunday in London New Hampshire He was born there July 29 1843 and studied at Boston University He served as pastor of the Methodist Church at Peterboro from 1867 to 1870 then joined the liberal faith and led Unitarian churches in West Bridgewater Walpole for total of eleven years He left a widow, daughter of Deacon James P Carleton of Melrose Massachusetts

Funeral of Hon Thomas Parsons at St Paul Brookline

The funeral service for the Hon Thomas Parsons was held at St Paul's Church Brookline at 11:30 this forenoon. Episcopal rites conducted by Rev 8 K Storrs with a quartet including Miss Mary H How and others. He was buried at Walnut Hill Cemetery, with the Brookline church vestry acting as pallbearers. Notables in attendance included Governor Robinson, Secretary Pierce, and members of state boards and Brookline officials.

Unitarian Sunday School Union Begins Monthly Meetings

The Unitarian Sunday School Union held its first regular monthly meeting in the Second Church vestry on Boylston Street. Hon. John H. Hardy presided, with introductions by John Mead and Mrs. K. G. Wells. Richard C. Humphreys chaired, Gertrude T. Jacobs read a report on the Rev Dr Hurlburt’s address urging trained teachers, and a discussion followed on making the Sunday school a church supplement rather than a separate institution. Mrs. Kate G. Wells proposed name badges for delegates to aid introductions.
