A peaceful outdoor gathering in fair weather hosted an independent rally at Music Hall with speeches by George F. Williams Henry L. Pierce James Freeman Clarke John E. Russell William Everett and H G Downing. Board meetings and local notices followed as stocks remained active but irregular.
The Wampanoag Mills stockholders voted to raise capital from 8500,000 to 750,000 and grant three new shares for every two held. Frederick Joslin of St. Johnsbury, a veteran of the Eleventh Regiment, has received pension and back pay totaling over $10,000 and a life grant of $72 per month. He has lost his sight from rheumatism tied to service. Since the war he was a licensed beggar in Montreal, later returning home to be supported by the town and Chamberlin Post G A R. It is believed to be the largest Vermont pension to date.
A high profile hearing opens at the United States Hotel to decide if Theological Seminary professors at Andover taught creed issues. The board hears extensive jurisdictional arguments about original versus appellate power and the right to proceed against the five professors.
