Mrs. Eaton's son in law recounts a remarkable tale of events after June. He says an admiral hinted at poisoning Mrs. Eaton, who was rushed from his house at five in the morning to her home in Assinippi where the admiral was.
Ralph P. Keyes testified in Plymouth that on the eve of Admiral Eaton’s illness Mrs. Eaton vowed to “look after him” after excited talk by June. The government cited this as tying Mrs. Eaton to the husband’s death by arsenic poisoning. Judge Aiken barred questions on the child’s parentage. Keyes said June was the mother, the child born April 20, 1912, before their marriage in November.
Dawson New Mexico is shaken as 230 miners are trapped in shaft No 2 at the Stag Canon mines after an afternoon blast. Two men were recovered from an upper level, rescuers from southern Colorado coal fields rush to the scene, and the cause remains unknown.
By 11 tonight rescuers had reached five entombed miners alive after penetrating over 100 feet into the mine. Rescued men, weakened by fat, were treated by physicians from nearby towns. Major Kinley organized a relief camp, while families waited near the entrance to Mine No. 2 as hundreds more rescuers arrive with gas apparatus and support.
The Newfoundland schooner Annie Roberts was sunk after a collision with the Dominion Coal Company's steamer Wabana in Sydney harbor. Four of the five crew are drowned, and the steamer was slowed and halted after the crash.
In New Haven on October 22 stockholders of the New York New Haven and Hartford Railroad debated the board's acts. The motion to approve the board's acts was struck from the agenda after a lengthy session. The annual report for year ending June 30 was adopted by a large vote. Howard Elliott led the meeting as president and the bylaws changes passed without dissent. Samuel Davis claimed former President Mellen would earn 30000 annually for five years, a claim Elliott refuted saying Mellen declined any compensation.
The by laws create the office of chairman of the board of directors elevating each New Haven subsidiary to its own directorate with Mr Blairman of the board presiding. Details continued on page S first column.
State Department officials refused to discuss Ambassador Page's inquiries in London about Britain's stance in Mexico. White House offered no information and Secretary Bryan remained reticent as secrecy surrounds U S Britain talks on the latest Mexican situation.
Officials say further conversations are likely but not before October 26, the Mexican election date. A US policy expression is anticipated soon after. No major internal changes reported aside from General Felix Diaz's arrival. Warships sent to Mexican waters by France Germany and Britain drew no US comment, seen as not hindering a free US approach.
The Supreme Judicial Court cut Mrs. Lillian M. Glover’s widow's allowance from $1500 to $500, amid circumstances of her husband Clarence F. Glover, a murdered Waltham laundryman, and the estate's settlement. The court said that, on the evidence, $500 is the largest allowance properly payable.
Testimony shows Mrs Glover confined since her husband’s murder with worn clothes and borrowed items. She filed for widow’s allowance over a year after his death, detailing three Waltham houses and a $96 monthly gross from two, plus $4300 then $5800 in bank funds. She contested an $83,205.64 estate value, claiming $21,000 for the Waltham Laundry Company, while estate costs reached $8051.08. The court notes Hattie Le Blanc’s Cape Breton murder trial related to the case.
All twelve inmates from the Massachusetts Home for the Feeble Minded who rushed toward liberty from the dining hall on Monday are back at the institution. The final two were brought home by their parents after reaching Boston.
The second American Catholic Missionary Congress closed as its most successful convention, with mass meetings held in the city and surrounding towns. Cardinal OConnell, the principal speaker, was greeted with an ovation at Symphony Hall at 8 o clock accompanied by William J Dooley.
In rear stage seating the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus Choral Society directed by Signor Pio de Luca presented an excellent program. The first number opened with the cardinal's hymn to the Holy Name as archbishops and bishops looked on. Continued on Page I-Sixth Column.
An incendiary blaze damaged a stable owned by Umbert Rea at 45 Elm Street Somerville last night around 11 40 in a tenement district The fire follows a string of similar fires in the area over the past several days causing renewed public alarm and police concern
A stable housing an automobile valued at 1000 plus household goods and lumber was destroyed in a fire. Losses are estimated at 1500. The door was found unlocked when the fire department arrived, though the owner had secured it earlier. The blaze started amid dry lumber and spread rapidly.
The menu lists today roast native chicken dinner for 85 cents and Friday specials including baked swordfish or boiled salmon with celery. A Saturday big special is advertised as well as a regular course dinner for 25 cents.
The account places the date on March 5 and notes Mrs. Eaton went to a Dorchester home. He learned of her presence on returning from work. Later his wife June arrived, and the mother and daughter talked for a while.

Francis McKinnon an 18 year old bellboy was crushed and killed in an elevator at the Hotel Somerset last night. He tripped entering the car and fell striking the control lever. the car started and sent him to his death in view of lobby guests. Screens hid the scene while guests were redirected to another elevator.
At a city hotel midnight accident traps bellboy McKinnon in an elevator. Firemen rescue him but he dies instantly. Two firemen narrowly escape injury as they cut through steel and brick before a power shutoff and elevator release. Fire chief says power should have been cut first.
