Five armed men halted a coach traveling from Helena to Boulder. Among passengers were Chief Justice Wade, District Attorney Johnson, and Sheriff Cameron of Meagher County. Sheriff Cameron and others fired. Charley Warfield, a robber, was killed. The rest fled into the mountains with no injuries reported.
A Valatie despatch says Hogeboom the laborer who says he tried to save a Boston and Albany wreck was not arrested as reported. Public sentiment favors Hogeboom though his record is mixed. Many believe his lantern light went out he could have saved the train.
In Germania hall New York on October 21 under Queensberry rules Jack Burke and Charles Mitchell fought four rounds to a draw. The match was praised as a fine exhibition of science with a fourth round marked by heavy slugging. Mitchell showed disappointment while Burke sought to continue fighting all night.
In Centre Alabama last night Miss Jane Ward and wealthy Chattooga County merchant J R Dorsey were taken from jail and lynched accused of complicity in the murder of Mrs Mary H Davis.
Mr Byron Somes of the Troy Telegram was in Boston on a flying visit. The Victoria Institute and Philosophical Society of Great Britain elected Rev William C Winslow of Boston as an associate member. C Berkeley Powell resigned as master mechanic of the Old Colony railroad and received a watch and chain from his department. Mr and Mrs Powell left for California for the winter. An apparent ad for Ola Bourbon stimulant appears at the end.
Chelsea Democrats packed Granite Hall on Tuesday with 100 guards escorting Henry B. Lovering onto the stage. Lovering reviewed his last term and tariff stance while Rep. Edward Avery and others attacked Governor Robinson and Mulligan letters. The meeting framed the choice as Lovering versus Lodge coalition politics, urging workingmen to fund the campaign.

The 2:30 purse of 400 dollars Blue Bell led but the final heats were halted at dusk with results split and final heats to be run tomorrow.
An officer of the signal service said the long drought continued through September across all regions east of the Mississippi and in Texas.
