Vaniman Defends Invented Equilibrator Against Chief
New York reports Chief Engineer Vaniman and Wellman differ on lessons from the Atlantic adventure. Vaniman places fault on a failing engine, not the equilibrator, arguing the device was heavy for the balloon and power. He says the other motor’s success might have altered the outcome amid a northwest gale.
