Suit against Mary Baker Eddy heard on demurrer

In the superior court session judge Fessenden heard Josephine C. Woodbury’s libel suit seeking 150000 damages against Mary Baker Eddy. The lengthy declaration spans 52 counts over 15 typewritten pages alleging sensational claims including fraud and attempted murder and references to Eddy’s powers and healing. The defense argued multifarious and excessive inducement among other points and the judge took the papers for decision.

A 15 year old boy from Park Place Somerville disappears for the third time in months. Police in Somerville and Boston search without result. He left with his father to go to work and was last seen at Union Square heading toward Lewis Wharf seeking the tugboat Blanche. Collector James D. Gill of the Internal Revenue Service warns shippers and carriers that un stamped documents are punishable as misdemeanors with a $10 fine.
