Bates and Collins at Champs Benefit
About 2000 Boston theatergoers packed the Boston Theatre to honor baseball stars James Collins and Bates at a charity benefit. Collins received the loudest ovation as captain and manager, with Gov Bates and Mayor Collins among the admirers. The event raised a handsome sum, aided by box purchases from Taylor and his father General Charles H. Taylor, while Regan of the Royal Rooters introduced the players and spectators enjoyed vaudeville acts and the listening to old New York games.
