Mishaps on the Rail Narrow Escape at Rahway

A Philadelphia express train on the Pennsylvania railroad near Rahway New Jersey suffered a near-total derailment after the engine jumped the track on the Main street bridge. Four passengers were shaken up and rails and roadbed were torn up for 500 feet. Rail damage extended over 2000 feet as cars derailed and scattered. A separate incident near Cecil County Maryland injured fifteen, two critically, when a door failed on a freight-train obstacle. Knights Templars returning from Washington were among the passengers. Across several locations there were additional wrecks with fatalities and injuries, including a wreck on the Big Four line near Trautman’s station and a fatality on a Lansing transit wreck scene.
