City School Board Elects E C Carrigan Master of School

Mayor O Brien sent a petition from evening school scholars urging Carrigan reappointment. He then won the master post 15 to 2. Heavy Losses From Fredericton Mill Fire

A major fire in Fredericton New Brunswick destroyed Morrison's saw mill and eight tenement buildings. About 1,000,000 feet of lumber, 11 car loads, and four acres of land were burned. Estimated total loss over 109000 with no insurance on the lumber. mill insured for 2000. About 110 workers were left jobless.

Alderman Leighton Dies After Prolonged Illness in Boston

Edwin Forrest Leighton a Boston alderman and longtime Democrat died at his No. 41 Pinckney Street residence at 9 5 P M on Tuesday Oct 13 from softening of the brain after months of illness. He was born in Lowell about 42 years ago and held posts in telegraph companies before serving on the Boston board of aldermen for three years. He leaves a widow and one daughter.
