$50,000 Art Work Stolen in Providence Case

Walter H. Gibbons, art dealer, seeks $10,000 damages from a Providence restoration company over the disappearance of a Rousseau painting valued at $59,000. The work, owned by the late Walter Richmond, vanished while in the company’s custody after Gibbons was dismissed in 1911. Gibbons alleges two years of detective harassment and a ruined reputation culminating in a 48 hour police detention. the painting remains missing.

Drowned Seaman Identified By His Mother

In Newport Rhode Island on Oct 12 Mrs. J T Comerford of New York disclosed the drowned seaman from the Bridgeport harbor collision after applying for removal of his body from the naval burying ground. The sailor had enlisted under the name Joseph P Russell of New York.

New Church for Chelsea Forms Parish of Our Lady of Grace

The Rev. Peter Quinn of Jamaica Plain has leased the Buck mansion on Nichols Street Chelsea for a parish house. The new parish Our Lady of Grace will serve Prattville Chelsea and East Everett including Whidden Memorial Hospital and Soldiers Home. A church will rise on vacant land opposite Washington Park near Nalhajain and Mitchell residences, with construction to begin immediately.

Man harvests 62 pounds honey from wild bee tree

Groveland New York October 12 Ralph Boothe reports a record honey haul from a nearby wild bee tree. After waiting through the season he extracted 62 pounds of comb including some very dark aged sections, counting the comb in his tally.

Ellsworth Editor Frank Rollins Dead at 60

Frank Waldron Rollins editor of the Ellsworth American died suddenly after a heart failure following an indigestion attack. A Harvard 1877 graduate he led the Plymouth County Journal and the Graph, worked for the Boston Commercial Bulletin and New York Journal of Commerce, and served 12 years as Ellsworth postmaster. He is survived by a widow and two married daughters.

Wife’s letter blamed for man’s death by suicide

New York, Oct 12 Floyd Dumond returned home to West New York New Jersey from work on the West Shore Railroad to find his wife and children absent. He died of carbolic acid yesterday after neighbors found him dying. An emptied phial lay by his bed with a Stroudsburg Pennsylvania return address letter at the bottom declaring This is a cause of my death.
