A head-on crash on the Berlin branch of the New York New Haven Hartford line in Westfield Connecticut killed one person and injured eleven others with three perhaps fatally. The Middletown bound steam train collided with a Meriden bound electric car at about eight o clock tonight.
Ralph A Blydenburgh of Middletown jelly editor of the Middletown Penny Press was instantly killed. Brattleboro Vermont October 10 Walter Nichols a 27 year old West Guilford farmer was found murdered in a road area near his home. His skull fractured by a hammer later found near the body. Irving Wrisley the Nichols farm hired man described as missing along with Nichols wife a bay horse and a wagon from the farm.
Sheriff Ce Be Mann leads the probe with a theory the same man who struck down Nichols was responsible for the other assault. The report notes ongoing work and references continuation on Page 6 Eighth Col.
Professor Alfred Bull Nichols, German instructor at Simmons College and former Harvard instructor, has been missing for four weeks from his Allston home. Friends say he had been in poor health and despondent. relatives kept the disappearance private until yesterday, but there is little fear for his safety.
A professor left home in September for Mattocks Maine to visit friends for three to four weeks. Seven days passed with no word, a detective traced him to North Station where a trunk unclaimed was found. Trains and hospitals offered no clues, and at 12 Blanchard Street Allston residents refused to share further information.
Edward P. Metcalf former president of the Atlantic National Bank which closed in April is named in a 65 page indictment along with four New York financial men. Metcalf surrendered to U S Deputy Marshal Rodman and faced arraignment following the indictment’s disclosure.
Nellie McCoy the actress sues George F. Fincke Jr. for 25000 damages in Syracuse alleging breach of promise after a May 1912 automobile ride when he asked her to marry him. The suit cites a prior breach case by Agnes Blunt against Fincke Sr. that was settled.
Gloucester October 10 William Martin of Melrose was badly cut and bruised when his auto truck left the road to avoid a collision, dashed against a tree and crashed through a roadside fence on the outskirts of the woods.
Mrs Pankhurst will not sail on the La Prove as planned and may be detained by immigration authorities. She will use another steamer and travel under an assumed name to test the efficiency of male government.
