Dolphin strikes Gloucester schooner near Newport

On Oct 12 the U S despatch boat Dolphin hit the fishing schooner Mary E Webb of Gloucester as it beat out of Newport harbor. The Mary E Webb sank briefly but was beached in Mackeral Cove Jamestown and later kedged off to safety. No injuries reported and the Dolphin stood by with searchlights and a lifeboat.
