New York October 12 reports a vast Columbus celebration with a 40 000 strong parade. Governors from five states national guard and US troops joined a grand civic display along a 15 mile route. August Laugner, sought for the 1891 murder of Miss Mary Emerson near Boston, was arrested in New York at 626 Water Street. State Detective J H Whitney and Inspector Sargeant led the capture after a German consul letter and informants confirmed Laugner’s location. Tattooed evidence on his arm matched the victim’s killer profile, and he is held at the Tombs awaiting extradition papers.
A brown gelding Grover S died during the 2:22 pacing race at Philadelphia Driving Park after being dosed to fix the result. Owner W Shanley of Binghamton and driver Joseph A Lyman were accused as bets were declared off. Investigators traced funds and a half full bottle with unknown drug was found. Hollister named M G Levan as a betting partner.
A Santa Fe passenger train struck a Fifteenth Street line cable car in Kansas City earlier today. The grip man and three cable car passengers died. Reports indicate two others were injured.

Washington October 12 Mrs. Harrison grows weaker though no new complications appear. The President looks careworn and nervous from months of strain while Mrs. Harrison remains ailing yet tries to comfort the President and children. Dr Gardner reports a quiet day with no fresh issues.
Denver October 12 Clif Sparks a gambler was shot and killed at Murphy's Exchange early this morning during a quarrel between Thomas Candedy and Jim Jordan over a two week old Chicago haul. Sparks and Murphy the proprietors tried to separate them. Two shots were fired Sparks died Jordan's pistol fired once and a second bullet source undetermined. Jordan and another man were arrested.
J G W Davis of Newmarket was found dead on a sidewalk after being struck with a rock. John Cotey was arrested and admits the killing claiming it was self defence after Davis allegedly assaulted him and threatened to shoot. An inquest was held.
Joe Pomolski and Egnacy Kamilski, Polish residents of Mrmpletown Connecticut, quarreled over a card game. Kamilski pulled a knife and stabbed Pomolski in the left shoulder, causing a serious wound but not fatal. Kamilski was captured in East Berlin this afternoon.
