West End Rail Track Relocation Sparks Civic Debate
Aldermanic committees on paving and railroads debated moving the West End street railway tracks on Tremont Street near Boylston and Park streets. Edison Electric Illuminating Company opposed the move citing a buried conduit costing $3000 to relocate. Citizens warned the public Common and fence would be at risk, while West End officials argued delays and winter timing. The committee reserved right to require change later but allowed work to resume immediately.
