Habeas case on Cohen's draft exemption questioned
Major Bauer and attorney Harvey Pratt argued in federal court before Judge Morton over Jack Cohen of East Boston now at Camp Devens seeking habeas corpus. Cohen asserts immunity from the draft because he bought an honorable discharge in 1916, while officials contend prior service provides no exemption and no army status at enactment supports relief. The judge took the matter under advisement with a decision expected soon.
