Bandits Hold Up Velvet Company Paymaster In Connecticut

United States Coast Artillerymen captured a man believed to be one of two masked highwaymen who earlier seized a satchel with 16000 in cash from Carl A. Koelb, paymaster at the American Velvet Company. The bag was recovered after a pursuit through Witches Woods as 12 artillery units, farmers, and 300 Velvet employees chased the robbers. The suspect, about 20, found with a golden chisel, was jailed.

Sanitary verdict for O Riordan stable at Charles Town

Professor M J Roserau of Harvard Medical School testified in U S District Court that Jerry O Riordans stable is sanitary though horses on the third floor disturb nearby officers. He warned non private stables breed flies and spread disease from odors. Additional witnesses included Mrs Margaret Baxter Miss Evelyn Williams and Commander W D Brotherton who testified to nightly horse noises.

City Council approves 498000 street loan for several widening projects

The Boston City Council passed a 498,140 street loan on final reading within the debt limit. Funds will widen Chelsea Street in Charlestown Norfolk Street Centre Street West Roxbury Hyde Park Avenue North Beacon Street Faneuil Street Amory Street and Neptune Avenue. An additional 49,000 from the printing department balance funds the Overseers of the Poor for widows with dependent children and 20,000 for South Boston municipal grounds fencing. A 5,000 provision covers Charlesgate West bridge work. Salem meeting cites irregularities in Company H Massachusetts Infantry including an overdrawn bank balance of 73 and more than 200 in unpaid bills.

City moves on budget tweaks for public celebrations and police pay

By mayoral recommendation 37000 dollars would shift to the mayor's appropriation for public celebrations. Councillor Watson's orders to raise probationary firefighters and reserve police officers pay from two to two and a half dollars daily, and to lift permanent police and firefighters annual pay from 1300 to 1400 dollars, were sent to the corporation counsel.

Miss Winslow Weds Griswold at Grace Episcopal Church

Miss Martha Winslow daughter of Mr and Mrs Samuel M Winslow and George Herbert Griswold were married in Grace Episcopal Church Norwood with Rev Charles Hastings Brown officiating. Attendant was Miss Rachel Winslow maid of honor and William Dell of Newton Highlands held best man duties. They will reside at 117 Winslow Avenue after a trip to New Hampshire and New York.

Wilson to press speedy passage of currency bill

President Wilson will meet with Democratic Senators to push the administration currency bill. He learned some Senate banking committee members plan extended hearings and a month more of work, likely delaying the measure into December and possibly stalling a vote. The White House says he will use all legitimate means to advance the bill before Congress adjourns.
