Two men suffered severe burns in a potash experiment at room 3820 on the Broad Exchange building’s third floor. George W. Sarana, 22, Roxbury, and Biel L. Sharpneck, 50, Winthrop, were treated at Grace Hospital after an explosion filled the 88 Broad Street structure with smoke and caused about 700 occupants to flee.

A large Holtzer Cabot Electrical Company plant in Brookline suffered extensive damage after a major blaze broke out. Firemen battled the flames amid difficult conditions as the extensive fire threatened surrounding properties. The fire caused substantial loss to the factory equipment and stock valued at about 100000 dollars. No injuries reported.
