Cape Girardeau dispatch reports the La Mascotte boiler collapse caused a powerful steam blast ripping through the engine room. Eleven roustabouts burned badly with several dying. five deck-hands in grave danger. Several passengers and crew from Cape Girardeau and nearby towns among the drowned or severely hurt. Names of the deceased and injured include Mrs Wheeling and two daughters, Judge Hagar, Miss Kruger, J Roy Perkins, Miss Robisch, Mace Shearer, Lew Adams, and Mrs Karnes with two daughters.
