A Berlin correspondent reports two Englishmen checked into the Kaiserhof as Spencer and Trafferd, identified as Lord Randolph Churchill. Churchill says the trip is for health and not political, while the British embassy says there is no verification of his arrival and the incognito claim is false. The man later traced to Dresden is confirmed to be Churchill.
Frank Hearld of New York fought Joe Lannon the South Boston heavy in six rounds under Marquis of Queensberry rules with Hearld knocked senseless in the sixth. A morning clash at Ramsgate harbor left about 300 French fishermen ashore as English fishermen pelted them with stones. The French fled to the water with feeble resistance, police and coast guard escorting them to boats before they sailed. Several sailors on both sides were injured in the confrontation over disputed net thefts in Ramsgate harbor.
At a cabinet council Queen Christina signed a decree commuting the sentences of the condemned insurgents and another decree freeing the Cuban slaves from the remainder of their terms. The entire cabinet has resigned, and it is believed the Queen will ask Senor Sagasta to form a new ministry.
