Messrs Howard Crosby and Co report Chicago wheat opening soft at 14 percent lower overnight. Liverpool prices fall 4 4 and London declines near that level. Consols rise 1 2 point as the market mood eases and the crisis outlook softens.

Wheat Markets and Trade Report Amid Mixed Signals

South African peace hopes persist amid economic notes. Northwest receipts lag last year with 1107 cars today versus 147 last week and 1306 a year ago. Wheat looks fair at opening but export trade underwhelms with 560,000 bushels per day cleared recently. Weather shows normal fall conditions but wintry in the Northwest. Nebraska drought threatens fall seeding with under half of expected 2,000,000 acres planted.

Harvard Receives Two Unusual Bequests From Doctor

Harvard learns of a 60 000 gift from Dr Calvin S Ellis for tuition and living costs for any Ellis descendant attending Harvard. The will, contested since 1883, leaves no known Ellis descendants at the college. A sister provided 90 000 for the Medical School, timed with anticipated changes.

State AFL session in Boston ends with officer votes

Retiring Worcester President Defeated in Tight Vote

The retiring president Mr. Pierce of Worcester lost by a narrow margin. Voters approved doubling the per capita tax with a referendum to be held by local unions. Jonas Weener, born in Holland, rose in London labor circles before moving to Boston and joining Cigarmakers' Union No. 47 with Alles & Fisher.
