The Warren line steamer Bay State, Captain Walters, from Liverpool to Boston, ran ashore near Cape Race Newfoundland on Oct 3. Four boats carrying 60 men were saved by the bark Flora. 13 men are missing and a boat with 15 aboard is unaccounted for as search efforts continue.

A blaze last night at 8 30 in a rear shed behind a two story building on Union Park Street near Harrison Avenue caused minor burns to Mary Brennan and Theresa Gallagher and forced residents to flee. Two dozen trunks and much furniture burned with losses under 300 dollars.
