The social club of Charlestown known as the 999th Artillery Association held its annual meeting last evening and elected officers for the coming year. Charles W. Sawyer was chosen president with Galen M. Bowditch as vice president C. E. Berry as treasurer A. F. Dayel as secretary and C. W. Sawyer G. M. Bowditch and Neil B. Dickey as executive committee members. The club reported prosperity with nearly 100 business men as members. After the business meeting a collation and informal social amusements followed.
Master Workman Powderly spoke to an enthusiastic St Louis crowd condemning attacks on the Knights of Labor. He defended the organization stance on child labor equal pay for women, education by general lecturers, and refuted charges with letters and documents. He urged unity and immediate plans for Chicago and Kansas City appearances.
