A life size white metal medallion titled Pasquecia, famed in Rome, was presented to the University of Vermont by Col Le Grand B Cannon Senator George F Edmunds and other Vermont leaders. The work is by Margaret Foley of Hinesburg Vermont.

Augustus Russ presided at the Boston Bar Association annual meeting. Reports show six disbarments pursued in eighteen months, including John H. P. Ahern and David F. Crane. In St Petersburgh on October 6, reports say there has been no large increase in the Russian army and no war preparations. The Germano phile court faction seeks friendly ties with Germany and Russia, hoping the czar and Kaiser Wilhelm II and Prince Bismarck will meet to ease tensions. A early morning blaze at Lott's two story restaurant on First Street in Winona Mississippi killed five men and injured others. Firemen and volunteers saved adjacent buildings while authorities determine the cause. Victims include J A Thomas J L Lawtry Lon Crouch and Paul Williams. The origin of the fire remains unknown.

A 10:50 Saturday alarm from Box 64 Milton cited a fire at J. H. Brooks residence on Adams street due to a gasoline tank explosion in the cellar with substantial damage. At 11:40 Saturday evening Box 126 reported a fire in Augustus R. Specht barber shop at 371 Broadway South Boston from spontaneous combustion causing $200 damage. At 11:20 yesterday Box 854 noted a suspected fire at 44 Winship Street Brighton with no damage.
A joint conference at Pythian Hall chaired by W J Shields discussed labor issues including foreign labor importation and railroad stock, while Building Laborers' Union No 6 initiated 29 new members at 43 Eliot Street. Knights of Labor organized gas house employees and freight handlers pressed wage advances after meetings at Greystone Hall.
North Easton, Oct 6. A Hayden and Mr Donohoe of Brockton were out driving when the harness broke and their horse bolted. They tried to stop the animal, met two carriages, and in avoiding them struck a stone wall. Both were thrown out. Mr Hayden sustained a bad shoulder wound.
