End of Portsmouth Kittery bridge halts traffic
The drawbridge on the main line between Portsmouth New Hampshire and Kittery Maine remains hanging in the river after a crank operated by draw tender George Damon broke at the upper joint. The end of the span slipped into the water while the other rod prevented total collapse. Damon was injured and taken to hospital. Traffic is not expected to resume until tomorrow night.
