The will of Private Charles B Henry of the Greely expedition, shot for stealing provisions, was filed for probate. Dated May 9, 1884 at Camp Clay Ellesmeres Land the pencil testament leaves all pay to Henry’s parents and siblings with William Helms of Chicago named executor. witnessed by Lieut Kislingbury and Private Bender. The postal card notes seven died and remaining men expected to die.
Captain Dillon of the Toronto Rowing Club was charged in magistrates court with being a stakeholder in unlawfully wagered money. He pleaded guilty and was remanded for sentence. Chicago Oct 3 local freight agents from east bound trunk lines voted to restore full tariff rates to seaboard points based on 25 cents per bushel of grain and 30 cents per pound of provisions from Chicago to New York. Bitter dispute continues over Missouri river passenger rates as counters quote 850 dollars to Omaha Kansas City. Reduction expected tomorrow.
