In a Blaine-Sentinel libel suit in Indianapolis district court, the Sentinel's attorneys filed two bills of discovery and twelve interrogatories. Cumberland fair drew 3000 attendees with two races started but postponed due to darkness. Large attendance at Buxton fair today.
Chicago October 2 freight rates to the seaboard were advanced from cut rates to a 20 cent basis for grain from Chicago to New York. A local committee meeting is set for tomorrow to propose restoring full tariffs at 25 cents per bushel, with expectation of success.
In Brussels on October 2, M. Marchi, director of the National Journal, who was ordered expelled by the government, did not depart the country until today. He was escorted to the station by friends, numerous societies and a band playing the Marseillaise, while shouting Vive la republique. Marchi addressed the crowd protesting his expulsion.

He supports fair labor wages, job priority for labor claims, and opposes imported pauper labor. He seeks strong national policy to protect citizens abroad and ensure honest military funding.
About 150 Brookline Republicans opposed to Blaine and Logan met at the town hall to plan concerted anti-Blaine action. The gathering endorsed voting to aid Cleveland and Hendricks and formed a 20-member committee to organize active campaign work with leaders including C. C. Soule and J. W. Mason.
