Knapp's roller boat rolls in snowstorm on St Lawrence
Ogdensburg New York November 25 Knapp's roller boat demonstrated its ability to roll today. In a blinding snowstorm with a stiff north wind it rolled from Prescott across the St Lawrence River to Ogdensburg but missed the channel to the upper harbor and rolled into soft mud on the bar beside the city. A steamer following could not reach her due to shallow water. Towing efforts failed and she may not be released until spring. The inventor and a stock holder aboard were rescued. The boat is 110 feet long and 22 in diameter with a car mounted engine using a climbing engine for motive power. Knapp envisions an ocean roller boat 800 feet long and 200 feet in diameter capable of 4,000,000 bushels of wheat at 12 knots.
