Stephen F. Manchester, a Nash road crossing tender in New Bedford, was assaulted and robbed by four unknown men who entered his shanty early today. Lewis Perry, an adjacent resident, was also attacked, and Sophie M. Plante was dragged from Manchester’s dwelling and assaulted by two assailants. John W. Hickey, a mill worker, is held on suspicion but may be cleared. Police remain puzzled.
