Neighbor Scoville describes Messiah followers claiming the white man’s belief, with threats to kill whites who interfere. Ignatius Monk Controversy Triggers Rhode Island Revocation
In a Nov 24 1890 letter from Providence Bishop Thomas M Clark the license of Father Ignatius J Levester Lyne to officiate in Rhode Island churches is revoked. The action follows questions about his position in the Church of England and his monastic practices amid wider Episcopal Church disputes over doctrine ritual and authority. The dispute echoes broader tensions between traditional ritual adherence and contemporary evangelical concerns within the church.
