London November 25 Mr Parnell entered the House to greetings from Cunning ham and Jacob Bright. He congratulated Corbett on his marriage then slipped past journalists with Justin M'Carthy. Nationalists back Parnell if he remains leader, but many English Liberals think he should go.
In the House of Lords Baron Windsor moved an address in reply to the throne speech with Baron Ardilaun seconding. Ardilaun, an Irish landlord, rejected claims landlords seek only to sell land and praised living in Ireland. Earl Granville praised the government for peace prospects, lamented American tariff policy, and noted Africa trade as compensation. Lord Salisbury discussed the McKinley tariff, Africa trade, Tipperary troubles, and defense of government policy and Morley’s testimony.
London officials report that Irish Home Rule MPs met before the House of Commons session and unanimously re elected Charles Stewart Parnell as leader of the Irish parliamentary party. In Portland a U S District Court decree appointed Joseph Simon receiver for the Oregon Improvement Company with bonds set at 100000. The firm faces multiple mortgages dating 1880 and 1889, funding railroads and coal mines from Olympia to Coos Bay. Despite liens and near-default risks, all revenue branches including railroads steamers coal mines and wharves will continue operations.
