Crazy John Rescued From Florence Street Roof

A man known as Crazy John Emanuel Rivers clung to a Florence street attic roof and refused ladders. Firefighters from Engine House No 8 hoisted him to safety after a tense 16 minute rescue. In Queenstown Mr Richard Croker looked indisposed upon the Cunard steamer Lucania's arrival. He said he was not well rested after a lengthy campaign and planned six months of rest in England and on the continent. He declined comment on charges against American jockeys and would not discuss Scotchman II at Doncaster until details are known. He avoided politics completely.
