Baden-Powell Dies Noted Economist and Politician

Sir George Smyth Baden-Powell died today at age 70 in London. Representing Kirkdale division of Liverpool since 1885, he was a Conservative MP and an eminent political economist with colonial affairs expertise. Born December 24, 1847, in Oxford, he was the son of Rev. Baden-Powell and granddaughter of Admiral Smyth. He studied at Marlborough and Oxford, earning the chancellor's prize for English essay in 1876.
