SCHOONER MYRA B WEAVE DISASTER NEAR Nantucket
The three masted schooner Myra B Weaver with 99 fathoms of chain and heavy weather ran aground near Handkerchief Shoal and capsized after a night of fierce wind and sea. Captain Vannaman and Miss Emerson died, four crew saved by City of Macon rescue. Olsen and Kearney among the survivors.
Coastwise barges and schooners ashore in strong gale off Vineyard Haven
The vessel Nora from Philadelphia to Fall River with 1100 tons of coal is ashore at West Chop and full of water as heavy seas crash over the barge. Waverley broke adrift and stranded on Block Island. crew saved. Drifton in distress struggled against sea, crew rescued by Joseph Stickney. Barge 21 fouled Robert Graham Dun. Dun damaged and to be towed to Boston. Gypsum King saved Dun and towed her. Gypsum Queen lost towing hawser but reached Vineyard Sound and anchors off Gay Head life saving station.

Monticello Steamer Wreck News From Yarmouth This Week
Captain Nathan Smith among survivors recounts the Monticello disaster off Chebogue Point. Three women volunteers were ferried ashore, four were saved, thirty four missing. Captain Harding master, crew from Yarmouth to Lockeport, ship built 1866. The 1000 ton iron sidewheel steamer was renamed City of Monticello and owned by Yarmouth Steamship Company.

Gale Abates at Wood's Hole Harbor as Vessels Seek Anchorage
At Wood's Hole on November 10 the northwest gale has abated with no reported shipping mishaps. A three masted schooner entered under bare poles via Gay Head. A large four-sticker showed distress signals and steered toward Vineyard Haven. Tug and two barges passed by. a tow was abandoned but recovered near Nobska. Cables to Martha's Vineyard and Pasque Island are broken. telegraph and telephone service are poor. The Governor Ames, a large five master, anchored off Great Ledge after dragging anchor, then held ground amid the unsettled night waters.

Big Atlantic steamers planned for New York to London
Two vast American built vessels for the Atlantic Transport Company will sail from Sparrows Point to join a London run next spring. Each ship measures about 630 feet overall, 600 feet between perpendiculars, 65 foot beam, 44 foot depth, 13,240 tons gross, 18,000 tons dead weight, with a cost of 1.5 million dollars. They will be the largest steel passenger and freight steamers built in the United States and may lead to more vessels for the same line.
