A 35 year old man was shot at about 6 o clock by his wife Mrs Hayes who told police she handed him a 44 calibre automatic revolver to shoot a field rat outside the kitchen window.

Woman shoots husband by accident in Ipswich cottage

Mrs. Hayes told police her husband Hayes handed her a revolver during a rat incident at their Eagle Hill home. The gun discharged while she was securing it, killing Hayes with a heart wound. She fled to Otis Engles' cottage before reporting the accident to police and medical examiner Guy D. Bailey.

Authorities report Charles Hayes killed by a close range bullet at his Eagle cottage. Medical examiner Bailey will autopsy findings at 1 a.m. tomorrow. Hayes, a Ipswich native, split time between clam digging and caretaking the Peabody House, with a Boston wife recently married.

Roxbury Man Held on Polygamy Charge

James Glancy a 57 year old former Roxbury resident at 26 Fountain Street was arraigned in Roxbury District Court on polygamy charges. He received a one year sentence to the house of correction, appealed and was held in 500 dollars for the grand jury.
