A severe snow and wind storm swept Ohio causing telegraph and telephone outages and trains to run hours behind schedule. Weather bureau reports the earliest such event in its history with 10 to 14 inches of snow in the north and east, a sharp temperature drop, and rising winds at midnight.
A severe late day storm in upstate New York blew a tree onto tracks, derailing a locomotive pulling a work train on the Raquette Lake railroad. Three crew members were killed as the locomotive and tender plunged down an embankment.
Fireman John Case, engineer Benjamin Hall, and brakeman A Lashaway died in a wreck near Raquette Lake as a severe Adirondack storm caused extensive damage. All three men resided in Raquette Lake.
Celebrations note figures born on this day including Martin Father in 1483 and King Piward VII in 1841. Joaquin Miller the poet and Rev. Henry Van Dyke were born in 1841 and 1852, with Winston Churchill the author born in 1871. One year ago today Ambassador Bryce resigned.

Harlan Page Amen longtime principal of Phillips Exeter Academy and Harvard overseer died in Exeter New Hampshire at age 66 from apoplexy. He rose from poverty after arriving at Exeter in 1872 with $85 and became a leading figure in American education leaving three daughters and a son.
In Kiev on November 9 the fate of Mendel Beiliss charged with ritual murder is set for jury decision tomorrow. A memorial service for victim Andrew Yushinsky will be held at St Sofia Cathedral near the courthouse as Beiliss faces continued trial. Beiliss told the court he is ill and tired and wishes to go home to his wife and children asserting his innocence.
In thick fog on Buttonwood road at Cole's station, a large electric car rear-ended a stopped car near Providence. Three passengers were seriously injured and 11 others shaken or bruised. Injured riders received treatment and returned home after rest.
The 28 year old Miss Jessie Costa will wed Dr. William H. Grainger about 70 next Wednesday at the Star of the Sea Church. The ceremony will be a nuptial mass with intimate friends and relatives present. Dr. Grainger, a longtime East Boston physician, lives in Winthrop and has a large Greater Boston practice. Miss Costa is the daughter of the late Captain Manuel Costa, once a famed Boston harbor fisherman. her father captained the schooner Jessie Costa.
Deputy sheriffs and constables hunt for Andrew Burt after he allegedly shot Mrs. John Carrott during a quarrel in Lime Rock Connecticut. Burt reportedly aimed at Carroll but hit his wife instead and fled into the woods.
The Charlestown Navy Yard Metal Trades Council will hold a special meeting Thursday night at Owls hall Charlestown to act on the 1914 wage scale recommendations. The wage board is expected to publish its recommendations tomorrow.
Nurse Miss Bessie Lukanoff will present a translated diary from Russian to English as evidence to the State Board of Insanity. Dr. George W. Galvin directs the translation, aiming to show abuses by nurses and patients and to support ongoing investigations at the institution.
