In a dramatic development the race positions New York as the pivotal state with each side declaring victory. Bettors push toward even money as campaign momentum shifts amid reports of shifting coalitions and polling.
Nils A Holmgren 295 Beacon Street Somerville shot his wife Thelka in the temple at their home on Beacon Street then killed himself. Both were rushed to Somerville Hospital where the husband died. The wife was placed on the dangerous list.
Boston to welcome the Fighting Ninth with an eight company parade from Dewey square to Huntington avenue and East Newton street. Seven Boston units and a Brookline company traveled home from the Mexican border duty and were due at Southampton street yards of the New York New Haven Hartford line at daylight with two sections arriving about 5 and 7 am.
Immense crowds formed as men, women, and children began gathering at midnight to greet the Ninth Corps. The scene captured a large turnout and widespread anticipation as the procession neared.

A large St Bernard bit six year old Ralph Ranney in front of his home at 44 Michigan Avenue Somerville yesterday afternoon causing severe facial wounds. The dog escaped and remains at large with uncertain ownership. The attack left the boy seriously injured and treated by Dr. William A. Sinclair.
Holmgren, an interior decorator, reportedly fired at his wife after a dispute about alleged infidelity. She survived after talking briefly to Patrolmen McCabe and Warner, and police noted Holmgren’s prior accusations as a motive. An attachment for 100000 dollars was filed in East Cambridge courts against Ida May Thrasher principal of the Roger Walcott Grammar School at Waban and Dr. David E Baker of Newtonville. They are charged with conspiracy on the complaint of Dr. Robert W Guiler of Newton Highlands.
Last night all parties refused to discuss the case or reveal the nature of the alleged conspiracy. Judge Guiler’s counsel Frank H. Blackwell said the writ is returnable in January and no declaration can be discussed. Dr. Baker, Newton physician, refused to talk. Miss Thrasher, formerly boarding with Dr. Guiler, could not be reached. Newton School Committee and superintendent professed ignorance of the case.
Boston Unitarian ministers invite evangelist Billy Sunday to speak at Second Church Unitarian at 3 30 pm next Monday on the evangelist's first day of rest. Rev Huxtable says the meeting should be pleasant and will not be public though others outside the association may be invited.
