Boston mayoralty campaign opens with eight nominees

The 1913 14 campaign began with eight nomination papers taken including Mayor Fitz gerald and a Progressive unknown. Ten vie for three council seats and three for two school committee posts while Congressman Peters took papers but withdrew last night. Mrs Patrick Cunningham of Roxbury claimed a body found in a Dover Street bathhouse as her husband Louie A Frederick an aging actor who died in poverty. Medical Examiner Leary refused payment of 180 to bury the man and investigate further after a clipping suggested the dead man was Frederick.

99 Year Old Swain Not Able To Wed

Everett G. Powers 99 of Crimacad and great grandfather planned to marry Annie L. Hart 47 of Charlestown but relatives prevented the marriage license from being issued yesterday. Hart withdrew her license request and the pair may still wed later.

Powers seeks marriage with Hart after license refusal

Mr Powers went to Mrs Hart at 70 Lawrence Street Charlestown after being denied a marriage license. He said licenses could be held up and hinted at eloping elsewhere but Mrs Hart, a widow with seven great grandchildren, said she wants to care for him and stay for a lawful ceremony. The couple planned to wed at Bowdoin Square Tabernacle.

Inspectors summoned stevedores to assist against Chinese crew on a ship. A riot followed as officers faced massed resistance.
