David Ignatius Walsh born November 11 1872 in Leominster. Moved to Clinton aged seven attended Clinton schools and High School where he led as class president and orator. Entered Holy Cross College 1890 and Boston University Law School 1894 97 rising to class president and top honors. Opened law practice in Clinton later partnering in Fitchburg. Won a 1899 Republican district seat and became noted as a persuasive stump speaker for Democratic causes. Secured nomination and election as Lieutenant Governor in 1912 and Governor of Massachusetts on November 4 1913. he was a bachelor.
