Murderous assault at New York Custom House shocks city
Louis Bieral formerly at the New York Custom House shot Surveyor Beattie in his private office. Bieral, 72, was seized after fleeing toward Beaver Street and sent to the Tombs. Beattie is not in danger. Bieral claims Beattie refused to reinstate him after discharging him for extorting from immigrants at Castle Garden.
