Siege and Sabre Echo in Paris Memoir fragment

A narrative fragments the political and legal bustle of a session with bills on innkeepers and public measures, then shifts to a grandson and granddaughter tending an aging, stubborn colonel. Amid siege fantasies and a Paris besieged, the old cuirassier dies during the Prussian advance as his loyal circle preserves his dignity.

Parliament Notes on Budget and Mystic Valley Sewer Bill

The Massachusetts House suspended rules to hear Miss Amelia J. Gill’s petition for state aid. A military affair committee proposed a $300 life annuity, while a reconsideration of a judge of probate salary vote was lost. Amended bills sought stenographers for the superior court and retained Suffolk under current law. Committee reports include a $6500 funds increase for legislative committee expenses, a Boston pauper aid issue, health building provisions, corporate business change, and river supervision for the Connecticut within state bounds. A public service report deemed some law revisions inexpedient, and an entailment for a state primary school at Monson was engrossed. The Mystic Valley sewer act petition prompted a substitute by Mr. Rust to allow land purchase near Mystic lower pond and river for sewage works, debated with mixed support and a substitution vote fail.
