Democratic National Convention Ends Ten Hour Session in New York Delegation Dispute
The May 24 1848 convention in Baltimore closed an all day session over New York delegation credentials. Debates split the Barnburners and Bucktails with Wilmot proviso and abolition doctrines as flashpoints. A tie vote left the question open, with both delegations admitted by a 126 to 125 amendment vote, and the body moved toward final ballots for president and vice president.
