Shanhaikwan correspondent reports on May 23 15 000 Russians from Haicheng and Liaoyang moved toward Fengwangcheng assuming Japanese retreat but were met by 30 000 Japanese at Tatung Pass. Russian losses exceeded 4000 with over a thousand surrendering. Japanese losses not stated. Fengwangcheng was a key position held by the first Japanese army after the Yalu defeat on May 1.

The two-story wooden factory and a nearby three-story building, owned by Perdore Stacey, suffered heavy losses. the blaze, aided by combustible stock, caused a total $30,000 fire with $15,000 insured. Escape of Two Girls From Roxbury Home
