Eight Hour Days Arrive in Readville Car Shops

About 2000 workers at the New York New Haven Hartford car shops in Readville will shift to an eight hour day five days a week, cutting weekly hours by 14. The change raises lunch from 25 minutes to one hour and affects machinists, repairers, mechanics, polishers, buffers, iron workers and others.

American boys guest of Lipton in London visit

Fifty cadets from the Columbia Park Boys' Club of San Francisco toured London as guests of Sir Thomas Lipton. Two Boston boys joined the group. From London they traveled to Southampton and boarded the yacht Erin sailing to Portsmouth to view Nelson's flagship Victory.

Impressive memorial services for Edward W. Kinsley Post 113 veterans were held at Sears Chapel Brookline. Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Marsh Ferris led the march and 39 of 103 comrades attended along with a robed choir and floral tributes. Reverend Thomas Van Ness preached on duties to the union and warned against new disunion threats from labor agitation and foreign-born communities.

Memorial exercises for the men of 61 and 98 were held at the Charlestown Navy Yard with over 1000 attendees. Congressman James M. Curley delivered the Spanish War oration praising mothers, while G. A. R. ceremonies honored aboard the Constitution. Brunswick officials and veterans observed with readings, music, and flowers cast for unknown dead.
