British dispatch notes minimal gains week by U boat activity. U S destroyers praised for work, yet only 18 merchant ships over 1600 tons sunk. Report highlights record arrivals and sailings as sea war continues.
Massachusetts may face 14 to 16 cents per quart for milk after July 1 following a vote by the New England Milk Producers Association executive committee. The decision ties dealer prices to a 45 percent share of the consumer price, with projections showing higher consumer costs and growing milk surpluses converted to butter condensed milk and cheese.
Fire found at 1 38 morning in engine room of the German steamship Ochenfels lying at Simpson's dock East Boston. Vernon Harris 16 time keeper sleeping on a cot burned on face and neck trying to fight flames. Fire controlled in minutes with about 150 dollars damage. Harris taken to East Boston Relief Hospital. Cause of fire unknown.
John D. Rockefeller announces a $25 million gift to the Rockefeller Foundation endowment. Dr. George E. Vincent, newly named president, notes the foundation’s resources rise to $125,765,000 as of the board meeting in New York on May 23.
Miss Josephine Romano of East Boston received a 15000 verdict against the Boston Elevated after an injury from contact with charged wires due to defective insulation on an iron pole. The incident occurred on September 1, 1909, as she turned 18.
The F. Gray Company announces a store wide sale on all $15 suits for 9.90 with no reservations. Black and blue serges are included. The sale opens this evening at 9 p.m. at Washington and Hanover streets.
City Collector John J. Curley angrily calls former Representative Arthur Harrington a liar during the Finance Commission’s public probe into the city’s bonding and insurance operations. Attorney Henry F. Hurlburt says Harrington was advised by Curley to buy a delinquent tax bond via Peter J. Fitzgerald, Daly’s father-in-law and Democratic City Committee chairman.
The Finance Commission seeks to prove Fitzgerald monopolized the city bonding and insurance business, noting he did not handle this line before the third month of Mayor Curley’s administration.
Will reopen as training camp for about 600 recruits of the Ninth Regiment Massachusetts National Guard at the Framingham site. Colonel Logan announced Framingham the best location to train the unit to war strength. Captain Charles H. Cole, former adjutant general, will command the camp.

Max Lane a16 year old resident of 218 Chestnut Street Chelsea was killed when the taxicab he rode in collided with a stone laden motor truck at Commonwealth Avenue and Hinsdale Street at 640 PM last night.
The Brookline Taxi Company cab driven by Frederick A. K. Mowatt swerved to avoid a trolley, skidded on a wet road and struck a stone truck driven by Irving A. McLean. Boy Lane was fatally injured, dying at City Hospital, as Mowatt and McLean were jailed on manslaughter charges.
National League results Philadelphia defeated Cincinnati five to one and New York beat Chicago five to three. Weather affected Boston with St Louis and Brooklyn with Pittsburg games. American League scores Boston eight to two and Washington over Cleveland two to one. Victor Standard Typewriter returned in perfect condition for twenty nine dollars and seventy five cents with weekly specials including ribbons priced at sixty five cents. London reports this week's submarine sinkings keep pace with the prior two weeks. The American unit, though small, shares officially in the credit for excellent work. Sinkings remain fairly low and the anti submarine offensive shows favorable results though exact figures are not disclosed.
