Isaac Parker Talbot shot his wife at No 289 Water Street near Holmes's foundry, then killed himself. Mrs Talbot was injured, later listed in critical condition. the couple had recently been separated after drinking and a family quarrel. The weapon was a $2-caliber revolver. neighbors and officials responded as the wounded woman and child sought help.
Mexsournn May 23 Deeming was hanged at 10:01 this morning after a calm, resigned vigil. He denied the Rainhill murder, thanked officials and counsel, and drank brandy before the seven foot drop. His life and crimes, including the Melbourne wife murder, were recounted with witness detail and lingering questions about his guilt and insanity.
Francis Fisher aged sixty attempted to end his life at his residence 20 Bennet street by cutting his throat with a razor. He was found bleeding from two gashes by his son in law who rushed him to City Hospital with Dr Hastings guiding the care. Despondency is given as the motive.

Perkins Titcomb 22 son of Captain Joseph A Titcomb a prominent resident of Kennebunkport died this morning at his father’s house from self inflicted gunshot. The weapon was placed in his mouth and the ball exited the back of the head causing instant death. Depression from nervous debility and failing health cited as cause.
Two fishermen and fifteen football players drowned in Port Phillip Bay after setting out for Port Phillip. Their boat drifted ashore bottomside up and all aboard were not heard from since.
G. K. Bairs & Bros. middle paper mill at East Lee was burned to the ground at 4:80 this morning. The loss was $18,000, covered by insurance. The fire was supposed to have been incendiary. The building will be replaced immediately.
The Boston Post will launch a 150 foot circumference balloon named Tom Boston Post from Boston Common on Memorial Day afternoon. Aeronaut Professor James K. Allen of Providence leads the project with a large efforts by James Allen & Sons. The balloon, carrying 100000 cubic feet of gas, is reinforced by multiple fabric layers and a strong netted car, with a detachable gas valve and safety gear, and is described as the monarch of balloons.
