Deacon Sentenced for Premeditated Wounding in Cannes

Edward Parker Deacon was sentenced to one year in prison for wilfully wounding M. Abeille at the Hotel Splendide in Cannes on February 17. The jury found him guilty of premeditated wounding but not of premeditated killing after a 35 minute deliberation. Deacon offered no remarks when asked for a statement.

Remarkable relay riders cut six hours from delay near Syracuse

Buffalo riders twice exceeded expectations delivering a message far ahead of time. By midnight the team had recovered six hours and more lateness, placing the relay fifty minutes east of Buffalo. Syracuse was to be reached by 10 a.m. or earlier.

Trefethen Case Moves to Supreme Court Appeal

The Tena Davis murder case advances as ex-Governor Long and Marcellus Coggan file their bill of exceptions and appeal to the Supreme Court at East Cambridge. The original draft is not public. exceptions echo those used in the recent trial argument. A new-trial motion on additional evidence is set for next Saturday at Middlesex Court House with several new affidavits filed.

Man Bound by Osage Indians Sent to Village

Charles McGill, while hunting in the Cherokee Strip near Gurarim Oklahoma, was surrounded by ten Osage Indians who bound him and marched him to their village. He was kept bound for four days and nights, made to sleep outside in the rain, and denied food. He was released and warrants issued for leading tribal members as the government prepares action.

Death of St. Albans merchant from wagon fall

John A. Bedard prominent St. Albans merchant in clothing and harness business was found dead on Newton road after apparently falling from his wagon. He was 52, survived by a widow and three children, with Manning the farmer who found him notifying authorities.

Van Veen Burned At Sea In South Atlantic

A Brazil despatch reports the British bark Van Veen from Portland Maine bound for Buenos Ayres was burned at sea on March 13. Captain McNeil commanded the vessel. The crew survived and were landed at Pernambuco after escaping the blaze.

Mayor’s hearing set for railroad crossing plan

Lawrence May 20 The Mayor and Aldermen voted to grant a hearing on June 6 for the Lowell Lawrence & Flaverhill Railroad Company. The proposed right of way would pass Prospect East Haverhill Avon Jackson Common Broadway Lowell Margin Hancock Mason and Water streets.
