Merchants Urged to Back Boston Port Growth

Howard Coonley, former vice-president of the Shipping Board’s Emergency Fleet Corp, calls on Boston’s leading citizens to back port development. He says current government ship contracts should not be abandoned, existing regional tonnage facilities are sufficient apart from the largest ships, and advocates expanding the department while ending fabrication yards. He adds that big local merchants must step forward to ensure a successful merchant marine.
