Plan Big Welcome to Liner Cincinnati in Boston

A large German population in Eastern Massachusetts plans a two day celebration for the Hamburg American liner Cincinnati upon its initial voyage to Boston. Mayor Fitzgerald, General Hugh Bancroft, Port Directors, city and railroad officials, and leading German citizens will participate in a landmark welcome event marking a new era in transatlantic passenger service.

German Liner Arrives as Boston Prepares Civic Welcome

The Hamburg American Line liner Cincinnati is due in Boston soon, marking first direct Boston Europe service. Mayor Fitzgerald and Port Directors plan a grand reception aboard the steamer Monitor with 300 German delegates and a large Catholic Society audience expected at Commonwealth Pier. Speakers include Captain Schaarschmit and Harvard figure Paul Grossman among others.

Street Blocked by September Morn Displays on Bromfield Street

Rival Bromfield street art stores drew crowds and slowed traffic yesterday with show window reproductions of September Morn by Paul Chabas. The painting, controversial for depicting a girl in the ocean, had sparked recent debate in New York and Chicago after winning Paris Salon awards in 1912.

London May 19 An English actress Miss Pearl Aufrere set to marry Viscount Dangan eldest son and heir of Earl Cowley at 23 who also acts on stage. She is 20 and may join the cast of Croesus in a minor role. the couple plan to continue on the stage after marriage.

All seats booked for tonight's First Spring Gambol at the Copley Plaza Hotel. Portland as Bostons Rival

The Cunard liner Franconia will bring about 1000 immigrants from Liverpool and Queenstown to Portland next week instead of Boston. Immigrants head toward Canada’s Northwest while officers from Boston assist Portland in processing the new arrivals. The Franconia sails May 27 from Liverpool to Portland.

Fire threatens Kittery Point amid forest blaze

On May 19 a wind driven fire menaced Kittery Point Me and headed toward the Safford Schoolhouse. Navy yard fire department halted the spread saving the school and homes of Haven Riley Charles Brooks and Ralph Seawards. About 50 acres burned and 200 cords of wood consumed. Sparks from a York Harbor and Beach railroad train are believed to have started the blaze.

Lieutenant Park Given Military Funeral

Lieutenant Joseph Dodge Park, US Army aviator killed near Los Angeles while trying to break the altitude record, was buried in Plymouth New Hampshire with a 150 soldier Coast Artillery detachment firing a military salute.

United Shoe Trial Opens Today in Sherman Act Case

The United Shoe Machinery Company and 23 officers face a Sherman act trial to dissolve the shoe machinery trust. Presiding are Judge William L. Putnam, Circuit Judge Frederic Dodge, and District Judge Arthur L. Brown. Defendants include 28 individuals led by Sidney W. Winslow and George W. Brown with ties to parent and 10 subsidiary firms.

Bill Would Permit Transfer Of Judges

Senator O Gorman introduced a bill to amend the judicial code allowing circuit judges to be transferred when calendars are congested. A judge with a light docket could be sent to a busier circuit to relieve congestion and improve efficiency.

International Secretary Treasurer Robert L. Warwick of the National Industrial Union of the Marine Transportation Workers sent a telegram to Boston ordering a coastwise strike of all longshoremen stevedores and firemen affiliated with the union. Similar messages reached seaboard offices as he aims for a general stoppage until Clyde Merchants and Miners and Savannah line workers settle their demands.

Consul Acevedo Attacks Huerta Regime in Boston

Justice Justo Acevedo, claiming the title of Mexican consul to Boston, denounces Huerta and Diaz as murderers and traitors. He urges Boston merchants to avoid shipments under the present regime and predicts Carranza will soon lead a constitutional government recognized worldwide. He praises Madero and notes eight Mexican states oppose Huerta with more to come.
